Phonics

At Thomas Gray Primary School we are passionate about ensuring all children become confident and enthusiastic readers and writers. We believe that phonics provides the foundations of learning to make the development into fluent reading and writing easier. We teach phonics and early reading through ‘Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised’, which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme. It is based on the original Letters and Sounds, but extensively revised to provide a complete teaching programme. We follow their progression, planning and teaching methods to ensure our children learn to read as quickly as reasonably possible. Please see below for our Phonics and Early Reading Policy and phonics progression overviews for Reception and Year 1.

Please click on the link below for resources, which will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.
